Comments

The interior is painted uniformly in off-white, but there are now inserted seats, painted red. And, unlike what happens in A9tj HJ4102-2, there are three seats in front.

Big news: the roof and the body are one. At last, they solve the problem of imperfect junction between these two parts. This requires dismantling the chassis to install passengers or lighting, but this disassembly is much easier than on the former productions.

The wheels, very bright, have a diameter of 10.5 mm, for 10.6 to scale. See axle specifications in the table of dimensions.

The bogies (Y24) and the chassis received the following parts: dynamo, linkage, brake tank and cylinder.

The coach is practically at the right height on the dynamo side and a bit too high (+ 25/100 mm) on the other. There are no more stops to limit the pivoting of the bogies, which are easily skewed, as well as the spring buffers, whose heads are still too small.

Other small improvements: the window panes are more flat; underbody marking plates are no longer glued, but are integral with the body; the handrails are inserted (but it’s not quite obvious!).

In 2013, B. Bayle criticized HJ for not having respected the body cut-out for the electric heating cables for their Srj. Well, this time, this is the case on this A7Dtj. See the comparison photo.Comparison

Modifications

  • Floor and seat headrests painted.
  • Ballast (52 g) removed.
  • Lighting: current pickup by wires wrapped on the axles; lighting strip with eleven 4000 K LEDs, controlled by latching reed switch. Red lights installed.
  • Nickel silver grid on luggage room window. Photo.Grid on luggage room window

History

This is one of the four DEV U63 1st class / luggage coaches with central corridor, No. 51 87 81-80 511 to 514 put into service from 1965 on the fast trains of the Est region. They are equipped with Y24z bogies and UIC rubber joints. I did not find any trace of the number used on the HJ coach, which seems fancy.
