Comments

The wagons have a rather spartan appearance, like their great models. They come with decorated brake choses (yellow-painted handle) and articulated screw couplings, which are incompatible with the NEM boxes that will have to be removed (see below). There are no simplified hooks.

The hopper interior is detailed, with ribs and rivets.

These wagons are fairly heavy, and comply with the NEM in this respect. The central articulation is a simple bar with a longitudinal clearance of 1 mm which can be increased to 2 mm.

The wheel back-to-back distance also complies with the NEM. The wheels have holes for lathing and are painted UIC red. The wheel flanges are very thin. The axles rotate in brass bearings. See specifications in the dimensions table.

To dismantle the NEM box, you first have to unscrew the two screws that hold the whole end, including the axle and the buffer beam. This is fairly easy on the non-braked side, but trickier on the braked side. Next, carefully remove the drawbar support, which is held in place by two pins behind the buffer beam. Hare is a photo of the dismantled parts.Dismantled drawbar

This two-screw fixing method has the disadvantage of raising the ends, giving the appearance of a collapsed chassis, with the buffers pointing upwards. Here is a profile photo. Deformed profile

I think the retail price is a bit high (€80 each).

See the Loco-Revue Forum.

Modifications

  • Laying a load of ballast.
  • Straightening the chassis ends.
