Improvement with Mécanic Trains parts.
Series of 1324 machines manufactured in the United States and delivered to France between 1945 and 1947. Theoretical traction force 237 kN. Speed limit 100 km/h. Weight 116 t (tender 72 t laden).
The R 994 was originally an oil-fired machine, converted to coal-firing in 1956 following the Suez crisis. Put into service in January 1947 in Le Teil (Ardèche), it was assigned to the Boulogne depot on 30 March 1961. It was withdrawn on 15 December 1970 (source: Le Train spécial No. 51, page 92).
In the Nord region, the last 141 R cease to be used in 1971.
For the anecdote, during our holydays in Banyuls (Pyrénées Orientales, South of France) in 1968, I saw many trains pulled by “R” locos. The following year, they had disappeared, replaced by Diesel 67000.

Machine delivered with two buffers and two complete articulated screw couplings (in addition to those already mounted on the front buffer beam).
The machine is driving, but the tender is inseparable in practice, and it contains the decoder.
A sand pipe, which was deformed in the box, broke on the first attempt at straightening out. The injector is glued completely crooked.
