Mercedes-Benz LPS 2032 tractor with Hoyer tank semi-trailer

Comments

The trailer is too inclined, so that its front axle is not on the ground.

We can see on the prototype that the headlights are embedded into the bumper, including the indicators (this is not the case on the attached photo, of a more recent model, on which the indicators have their own location). Brekina has simplified this by painting the area white!

Almost all the photos of three-axle tractors show the second axle fitted with single steered wheels (the latter, of course, only visible when the wheels are turned), so in a 6 × 2 configuration. Also, but I could be wrong, I don’t see the need for a 6 × 4 tractor for a relatively light petrol semi-trailer.

Modifications

  • Fifth-wheel milled to lower it by 1.2 mm; the chassis frame just below had to be milled also to let the pivot of the trailer into. The front axle of the latter is not yet on the ground, but it is much less obvious (photo taken after modification).
  • Rear lights painted red (tractor and trailer). Landing gear glued (had a tendency to escape).
  • Tractor’s rear mudguards changed for more enveloping ones, but unfortunately not wide enough, from Herpa.

History

Made from 1969 according to Diamond Tuning, and even much earlier (1963) — at least for the cab — according to magnum31gb.skyrock.com (broken link), perhaps until 1976.

A Hoyer branded cab can be seen on page 67 of the baumaschinenbilder.de forum.
