Layout and materials
The bottom of the box is made of thick enough (0.7 mm) grey cardboard (the cheapest). The lid is made of a thinner (0.4 mm) grey cardboard with a white side.
The bottom is not dressed, since it will receive the vehicle wheels, which are not the most fragile. The lid will be dressed with a 3 mm thick layer of extruded polystyrene, also known as Depron. The bottom edges will also be covered, if necessary, with the same material, while the dividers will be made of 6 mm thick extruded polystyrene.
Examples of length partitioning
The No. 1 length partitioning allows seven locations with the chosen dimensions (see page 4). It is suitable for very long coaches, like some 27.5 m DB coaches. However, each cell can also accommodate two vehicles up to 15 m long, such as three-axle coaches, some bogie cereal hoppers or tanks, or three 11 metre 2-axles wagons such as UIC G4 covered wagons.
This No. 2 partitioning, with an additional cell in width, accepts standard 26.40 m long UIC X or Z coaches, or 304 mm at scale, without forgetting to add 10 mm on both ends for the coupling, particularly long and exposed in the case of the “harpoon” Roco. The eighth cell allows to store a relatively short car (CIWL dining car), or, for example, spare parts bags.
Example of width partitioning
The width partitioning offers nine places. It is suitable for older coaches, such as OCEM, Nord or CIWL ones.
