Kässbohrer Setra S12 coach
Sold in a rather small cardboard case, containing a two-part thermoformed shell, much less bulky than the older rigid plastic boxes.
The mirrors are mounted, and are well protected in the packaging. Their support is too thick. A realization in photoetching would have been welcome.
The wheels seem a little too big.
The many windows are pretty well fitted (except on some windows to
the rear, defect that I corrected after taking the photo), and the
decoration is very fine. The interior is uniformly red. The floor
should be painted dark grey. Photo from the autocarsanciensdefrance.fr website.
Black dashboard and steering wheel. Another photo from the same
website.
To repaint the interior, install passengers, or to simply remove
some dust therein, the coach is disassembled by removing the rear
bumpers, with caution because they are slightly glued. Photo.
The S12 is part of the range S9 to S12 manufactured from 1959 to 1967 with aesthetic evolutions. These coaches presented a whole series of innovations compared to their competitors.
Characteristics: Henschel 6-cylinder 140 to 170 hp rear-mounted engine; total weight 12.5 t; empty weight 8 t; length 11.12 m; pneumatic suspension; maximum speed 100 km/h; around 49 seats.
NB: Kässbohrer is better known as Setra, which in fact is the contraction of selbsttragend which means free-standing, as opposed to other buses of the time that were designed with a body mounted on a chassis.
