SAI Les Classiques 6250 and 6253
Peugeot 204 1968, resp. Courchevel white and crimson red.
The Courchevel white colour designation is correct; however, there is no mention of “crimson” red in the Peugeot colour chart. It could be amaranth red (dark) or ruby red (lighter).
Nice model with a very good scale, except as often for the axles (tracks, wheel diameter). The lights and indicators are painted, as well as the Peugeot sign on the rear boot lid and the badge on the front grille, both perfectly legible with a magnifying glass.
The car can be disassembled, as always at Les Classiques,
with two small screws, but requires here the prior removal of the exhaust pipe
fixed with a tenon glued with a rubbery glue. Photo. We
discover a very detailed interior. The steering wheel is too big and touches
the driver’s seat, but it is not a big deal… The dashboard is black; the
upholstery is light tan for the red model, and red for the white one. Photo.
The windows are too small, especially the windscreen. This is partly due to the thickness of the uprights, partly to the black and silver decoration painted on the glass, which is supposed to represent the seals. All this reduces the glass surface. It would have been better to paint a thin silver stripe on the body edge.
The front end is not very convincing: the sheet metal around the grille is too thick. Moreover, the colour around the headlights is the same as the body, while in reality it is chrome. This contributes to the impression that the headlights are too small. The vertical bars of the grille are too visible.
A final criticism: for a model of this price, the rearview mirror is only represented by a moulded boss. PCX87 does it better.
